Helpful Registry Tweaks for Google Talk

Tweaking your registry can enable Google Talk to perform just the way you want it to. Make sure that you follow these steps carefully since altering the wrong values may have unexpected results at your end.

  • Click 'Start | Run' and type 'regedit' and click OK. The registry Editor will open up. Edit or create the following values to suite your needs.
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options | show_pin : If the 'show_pin' value is 1 then a pin appears near the minimize button. This pin ensures that the current window appears above all other applications.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options| view_show_taskbutton : If the 'view_show_taskbutton value' is 0 then windows hides the taskbar button. Only the tray icon is displayed when the Google Talk application window is shown.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options|away_inactive : If the value is set as 1 then the status will automatically set as Away after a specified number of minutes.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Google | Google Talk | Options|inactive_minutes : This key defines the number of minutes to change status to Away [if auto-away is turned on]
